Afternoon Greek School
The Greek School meets each Tuesday evening from 5:00pm to 8:15pm from September to June. The curriculum of the Greek School consists of a well-rounded program of subjects designed for each age, grade and skill level. Each grade level builds on previous work as students progress in their skills. A typical Tuesday evening session includes instruction in all of the following:
  • Reading and Writing (Approx. 90 mins.)
  • Speaking (Approx. 30 mins.)
  • Culture, Geography, History & Mythology (Approx. 30 mins.)
  • Dancing (Approx. 30 mins.)

The School calendar also includes special events where students perform plays, recite poems, sing songs, demonstrate dance and display their crafts and artwork to the community. Among the special events and holidays celebrated are: Oxi Day (Oct), Christmas (Dec), Greek Independence Day (Mar) and Graduation (Jun). All books are provided free of charge to students who are encouraged to keep them for reference as they progress in their education. Each Tuesday evening session includes a 15 minute dinner break for students.

The P.T.O. provides hot, fresh delivered pizza from a local pizzeria and serves drinks which are available for purchase as a convenience to parents and students who may not wish to bring food. Students’ educational experiences are supplemented by activities and social events. Again, the P.T.O. is largely responsible for planning and funding trips, dances and other activities. Past activities include trips to Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Onassis Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Greek restaurants. The Greek School is fully supported by school tuition and P.T.O. fundraising activities. Tuition and P.T.O. funds support only the Greek School. The Church, through its members, pays for, provides and maintains the facilities and vital services used by the Greek School – services such as heating, utilities, housekeeping and even winter snow removal in preparation for our Tuesday evening classes. It is for this reason that Greek School families are required to sustain their Church membership in good standing each calendar year.

We invite you to join us and learn more about our school and see how the experience of a Greek School program can enrich the lives of your loved ones.
