SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS
This year our Philoptochos Society will be participating
in helping this organization collect shoes for at-risk children
in the U.S. and orphans in 55 countries around the
world. Many of these children have never owned a pair
of new shoes. Please help our mission and donate shoes
for these children. A box will be located near church office.
Please help support this most worthy cause.
We
also raise money to help our church.
We meet once a month after the Liturgy
in our room in the Community Center.
The dates vary according to the calendar
of the church. Elections are held
every two years on the odd numbered
years. We have just elected our officers
for the coming two years 2009-2011.

On Saturday, September 26, our Philoptochos
sponsored an event on the east
end that was widely supported by many
chapters on the island. It was a beautiful
day and the weather was with us.
Over 75 women and men attended the
event. Women came from Hicksville,
Resurrection, Whitestone, Hempstead,
Babylon and Wantagh churches. At the
luncheon, there was a raffle and a 50-50
raffle. We will be donating some of the
proceeds from this fund-raiser to Cooley’s
Anemia. Everyone had a wonderful
time and Philoptochos would like to
thank all of the ladies that worked hard
to plan this event. Everyone had a wonderful
time. It was a most successful
first event of the calendar year! Thanks
again to all who supported it!
Philoptohos is also starting a food drive
for “The Holiday of Thanksgiving”. Non
perishable food donations may be
placed in the appropriate box outside
the church office. Turkey donations
(fresh or frozen) will be accepted at the
church around the middle of November.”
Our next planned event will be our Annual
Christmas Party. It will be discussed
at our next meeting and the date
and time will be posted for all to have
an opportunity to join us at this very
joyful time of year. We look forward to
seeing you all at our next meeting.
Forbearing one another, and
forgiving one another, and if
anyone has a complaint
against another, just as
Christ forgave you, so
should you also forgive. And
with all these things have
love, which is the bond of
perfection. And let the
peace of Christ govern your
hearts; for that end, you
are called in One Body; and be thankful to Christ (Colossians 3:13-15).
